Voting has officially begun for The People’s Money, NYC’s citywide participatory budgeting (PB) process and NYPIRG is proud to be partnering with the CEC to get out the vote!

From May 1st through June 12th, New Yorkers age 11 and up, regardless of immigration status, can decide how to spend $3.5M of city funds on projects in their community.

Last year, in the first People’s Money process, New Yorkers voted to fund 46 expense projects for a total of $5M. The projects address a wide range of community needs, including mental health, food safety, youth programming, skills building and arts. To learn more about the process, visit participate.nyc.gov.

How to Vote by June 12th:

Voting online is easy. The online ballot is available in English and 13 additional languages. Visit on.nyc.gov/pb and follow these instructions:

  2. Then you'll be prompted to enter a "Partner Code," make sure to enter "NYPIRG" as your partner code!
  3. Next they'll ask you to verify your phone number, just to guarantee one vote per person, and the SMS code should come right away.
  4. Finally, you'll be presented with the ballot - take some time to read through each project, you can vote for as many or as few as you'd like! Once you've hit "submit" at the bottom of the page, there's an optional demographic survey, then: you're done!

Thank you for voting! We will find out the results of the winning projects this summer.

Thank you for joining us for our clean-ups across the state!

On March 15th students, faculty and staff from  marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to express their suport for CUNY. The #MarchinMarch gathering was organized to show support for the #Newdeal4CUNY which includes funding for more affordable tuition and more mental health and academic advisors on campus.

NYPIRG participated in a pivotal day of action and rallied in support of the NY HEAT Act!

We joined environmental activists, advocates, legislative champions, and everyday New Yorkers in Albany to solidify the NY HEAT Act's inclusion in the state budget for cleaner heat and lower bills! Together, we will free New Yorkers from outdated rules forcing us to burn fossil fuels, and move us toward the 100% renewable future we deserve.

Thank you to everyone that attended the Spring Student Empowerment Conference on March 9th! We had a day full of workshops, guest speakers, and student collaboration!

NYPIRG students headed to Albany to fight for free public college tuition, better financial aid, more mental health services, and more!

After years of stagnant state funding and ever-increasing tuition, it is vital that we not return to the status quo in higher education. NY must usher in a new era that recognizes that investing in higher education boosts racial and economic equity and strengthens our economy. Students headed to Albany to fight for free and fully funded CUNY and SUNY, more financial aid, and additional class offerings, advisers, and mental health counselors!

A huge win for New Yorkers!

Governor Hochul signed the Fair Medical Debt Reporting Act, a historic bill that removes medical debt from credit reports. Hunter NYPIRG Student Anthony Calafiura spoke alongside the governor before the signing.

When: 12 PM
Where: Started at West 56th Street and Broadway in Manhattan, proceeded to the United Nations headquarters for a rally (full route information TBA)

NYPIRG marched to end fossil fuels!

With wildfire smoke choking the air that we breathe, hurricanes and floods threatening our homes, and toxic pollution making us sick, it has never been more urgent to end our dependence on the leading cause of these crises – fossil fuels.

In New York this September, the United Nations gathered world leaders for a first-of-its-kind Climate Ambition Summit to demand that nations stop developing new oil, gas, and coal projects and phase out fossil fuels once and for all. With his recent approvals for mega-polluting fossil fuel projects, President Biden must immediately reverse course to earn his seat at the table. But it will take all of us acting together to make sure that he does!

Thank you for your help!
